About

Ben Thurley

Ben Thurley (me) is currently located in Kathmandu, Nepal with his lovely family.

Previously National Advocacy Coordinator for TEAR Australia I am now a volunteer fieldworker with TEAR, working as advocacy advisor with United Mission to Nepal. So, I’ve been allowed to do my dream job not once, but twice – in two different countries!

Seeking change and speaking out with and for poor and marginalised groups is – for me – a fundamental expression of my trust in God (Father, Son and Spirit) and a way to share a little of what I’ve been given. It also means that I get to meet, learn from and work with some of the most amazing people in the world.

I have, in the past, been employed as the NSW Coordinator for TEAR Australia, a high school teacher, traffic and transport surveyor, Hungry Jacks burger chef, and industrial hole-punch.

I am a husband to Lyndall, father to Gabriel and Jacob, son to Portia-Ann and David, brother to Gina, Esther, Alice and Tom.
